All right, as you may have noticed, we’ve been having some functionality issue here at The Bits website in the last week or two. I’m gonna talk about that a little more in a second, so hold that thought.

But first, I wanted to call your attention to a bunch of new disc reviews we’ve completed here at the site lately…

Over the last three or four days, I’ve completed detailed reviews of four of the films in MGM’s new 007: James Bond – Sean Connery 6-Films Collection in 4K Ultra HD, including Terence Young’s Dr. No (1962), From Russia with Love (1963), and Thunderball (1965), as well as Guy Hamilton’s Goldfinger (1964).

Now, I was in the middle of reviewing You Only Live Twice (1967) when I discovered that the copy of the film on 4K disc in my set was defective (I’m having a layer switch issue late in the film—just a bad disc I think, not a widespread issue). So I’m awaiting a replacement copy from WBDHE and I’ll resume my review work on the set as soon as it arrives. in the meantime, I may knock out another 4K review or two, so be sure to stay tuned.

Also today, Tim has posted reviews of Wyott Ordrung’s Monster from the Ocean Floor (1954) on Blu-ray from Film Masters, as well as Gordon Flemying’s Dr. Who and the Daleks (1965) and Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 AD (1966) in 4K Ultra HD from the good people at Severin Films.

Dennis has turned in his thoughts on Glenn Gordon Caron’s Clean and Sober (1988) on Blu-ray from the Warner Archive Collection.

And Stephen has offered a genuinely in-depth look at our old friend Vincent Pereira’s A Better Place (1997), which has been newly remastered on Blu-ray from View Askew and the MVD Rewind Collection!

All are well worth your time, so please give them a look. [Read on here...]

Now then, as I mentioned we’re having some software issues here at The Bits. Rest assured, we know exactly what’s causing them, and we have people on it. This is something that’s actually been brewing for a while, and that’s going to require a set of major software updates, which are currently being planned. But once we do the upgrades, there are likely to be more disruptions, as any time you update software on a website, you fix many things but you also break a few other things which then have to be debugged and tweaked. It’s just how it is when you run a website.

In the meantime, we’ve taken steps to ensure that the site is at least loading faster than now it was before, so you should be able to read everything we’re posting. But we would simply ask for your patience while we deal with these issues over the next few weeks. And I’ll share progress reports as we sort it all out.

In terms of announcement news, we have a couple of things for you today…

Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment and New Line have announced the Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release of Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky’s Final Destination: Bloodlines (2025) on 7/22, with the Digital release expected on 6/17. Extras will include audio commentary with the directors and a trio of featurettes.

Our friends at Lionsgate have revealed a 4K Ultra HD catalog that title we first broke the news of here at The Bits a couple weeks ago: Bill Paxton’s Frailty (2001)! Look for it to street officially on 7/15 in standard packaging that includes the 4K disc and a Blu-ray. The 4K will include Dolby Vision HDR and a new Dolby Atmos mix. New extras will include Father Figure, Establishing Shot with David Blocker, and More Stories from the Frailty Set, as well as the film’s teaser and theatrical trailer. You’ll also get all of the legacy special features. You can see the cover artwork above left and also here (clicking on the image will take you to the Lionsgate Limited website)…

Frailty (20015) (4K Ultra HD Steelbook)

And Kino Lorber Studio Classics has revealed a trio of Blu-ray titles for release on 8/12, including John G. Avildsen’s Save the Tiger (1973), Elliott Nugent’s The Great Gatsby (1949), and a Pre-Code Classics double feature of Confessions of a Co-Ed (1931) and Ladies of the Big House (1931). Also set as coming soon are Christian-Jaque’s The Second Twin (1966) and Cliff Owen’s The Wrong Arm of the Law (1963).

Back with more soon! Stay tuned…
