As expected, Lionsgate has also set Francis Lawrence’s The Long Walk (2025) on 4K + Blu-ray Steelbook as an Amazon exclusive on 11/25. That will include Dolby Vision HDR, Dolby Atmos audio, the multi-part Ever Onward: Making the Long Walk documentary, an alternate ending, trailers, and 2 featurettes (Stephen King: An Appreciation and Cooper & David Scene Read).
Also today, Universal has officially set Sam Mendes’ Jarhead (2005) for 4K Ultra HD and 4K Steelbook release on 12/16, featuring Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. (And while we have Universal’s attention, I’d love to see them do Mendes’ Road to Perdition (2002) in 4K UHD as well.)
Universal has also revealed a new 4K Ultra HD Steelbook edition of John Landis’ The Blues Brothers (1980) that includes a new retrospective called On a Mission from God: The Story of The Blues Brothers, featuring “new interviews and never-before-told stories from the cast and crew.” This is meant to celebrate the film’s 45th anniversary. Look for that to street on 12/9, featuring HDR10 and DTS:X audio.
Via Vision has announced two new 4K Ultra HD catalog releases that are coming in December: Karyn Kusama’s Aeon Flux (2005) and John Carpenter’s Vampires (1998). Each will include Dolby Vision HDR. The street date for both is 12/10, limited to 2000 copies each.
Also today, we’ve been made aware that there are a couple of errors in Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s new Peanuts: Ultimate TV Specials Collection Blu-ray set. First, Charlie Brown’s final line in the special You’re in Love, Charlie Brown is reportedly missing. (“Good grief! How will I live until September?!”) Second, A Charlie Brown Celebration is apparently presented in poor quality SD, which is odd because the special has been restored in HD on Apple TV. We’ve informed the studio, so hopefully they’ll investigate the issues. Thanks to the many Bits readers who reported this to us.
Finally today, we have a bit of sad news: The acclaimed artist and illustrator Drew Struzan has died. Struzan was single-handedly responsible for dozens of iconic movie posters over the years, including the Indiana Jones and Star Wars films, as well as Back to the Future, Blade Runner, the Harry Potter films, Shawshank Redemption, The Goonies, Hook, Big Trouble in Little China, The Thing, and many more. Struzan is to movie poster art what John Williams is to movie soundtracks. He will no doubt be greatly missed. But what a legacy he’s left us! Struzan was 78. You can read more on his life and work here, here, here, and here.
That’s all for today. Stay tuned…
