While we’re talking Paramount, the studio hasn’t officially announced this one yet but the pre-order listings have already gone up on Amazon.com... the studio will indeed be releasing John Landis’ Beverly Hills Cop III (1994) in 4K along with a Beverly Hills Cop: 3-Movie 4K Collection on 2/20/24. Again, we don’t have the official details yet, but we expect them at any time. We do, however, have cover artwork which you can see below.
And we’re not quite done yet. Still on the subject of Paramount, cinematographer Dariusz Wolski shared on Instagram this weekend that he’s been asked by Paramount to supervise a new 4K HDR restoration of Alex Proyas’ The Crow (1994). So that’s likely coming to 4K Digital and probably physical 4K Ultra HD as well next year. Thanks to Bits reader Scotty W. for the heads-up.
One more for the road: Paramount has also just set John Ford’s The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) for release in 4K Ultra HD on 3/5/24. As most of you will already be aware, the studio released this in a Paramount Presents 4K edition back in March of 2022. This appears to be the exact same disc, just a refresh in new poster art packaging.
Now for that last piece of big news: You know how we’ve been saying for a while now that David Fincher’s Se7en (1995) was coming to 4K Ultra HD? Well, it’s finally (almost) here: Both Zavvi and Amazon UK have just listed the title for release on Ultra HD in two different deluxe packaging with Steelbook options.
There’s an Ultimate Collector’s Edition in Steelbook packaging with swag (click on the image to visit the Amazon UK pre-order page)...
And there’s also a more elaborate “What’s in the Box?” Steelbook Ultimate Collector’s Edition that includes even more swag (again, click on the image to visit the Amazon UK pre-order page)...
Both Zavvi and Amazon UK have listed the street date as 30 December 2024, which is obviously more than a year away and so almost certainly a temp date. My belief is that it’s coming early in 2024, sometime in Q1—otherwise there’s no point in listing it yet. Keep in mind: at this point, we still have no idea if this deluxe packaging is coming to the US, or if (per Warner US’s usual) we’ll just get regular Amaray and Steelbook versions. But given these listings, I would expect the title to be officially announced fairly soon.
Also today Kino Lorber Studio Classics has set a BD-50 re-issue of William Wyler’s The Big Country (1958) for release on Blu-ray on 2/6, featuring the exact same transfer and extras but better image compression. The company has also revealed that Joan Darling’s First Love (1977) and Max and Dave Fleischer’s animated Mr. Bug Goes to Town (1941) are both coming soon to Blu-ray (street date TBA).
88 Films has set Michael Reeves’s Witchfinder General (1968), Jesús Franco’s Count Dracula (1970), and Piers Haggard’s Blood on Satan’s Claw (1971) for release on 4K Ultra HD in the UK on 3/25/24. We expect US release dates to be announced soon.
And while we’re talking UK releases, Dazzler Media has set For All Mankind: Season 4 for Blu-ray release in the UK on 10/7/24. That’s probably a placeholder date. No word yet on the Blu-ray release of Seasons 2, 3, and 4 from Sony here in the States. (I reviewed Season 1 here.) But For All Mankind: Season 4 is currently airing on Apple TV+ and it’s another fantastic season of the show.
