Warner & DC set Superman for disc on 9/23, plus Pixar’s Elio, Lionsgate’s Daybreakers & The Devil’s Rejects in 4K Steelbook, A24’s Eddington & more!

We have a few big pieces of announcement news to report today here at The Bits!

But first, we’ve got three more new disc reviews for you, including

Stephen’s look at William Friedkin’s Jade (1995) in 4K Ultra HD from Vinegar Syndrome.

Dennis’ review of Bertrand Bonello’s Zombi Child (2019) on Blu-ray from Film Movement and Vinegar Syndrome.

And Stuart’s thoughts on Richard Bartlett’s Rock, Pretty Baby (1956) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

Now then, in announcement news today, the big news is that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and DC Studios have officially set James Gunn’s Superman (2025) for Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release on 9/23, with the Digital release due later this week on 8/15. [Read on here...]

The 4K will include Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. Extras on the Blu-ray, and Digital SKUs will include 9 featurettes (including the hour-long Adventures in Making Superman, Icons Forever: Superman’s Enduring Legacy, Lex Luthor: The Mind of a Master Villain, Kryptunes: The Music of Superman, Paws to Pixels: Krypto is Born, Breaking News: The Daily Planet Returns, The Ultimate Villain, The Justice Gang, and A New Era: DC Takes Off), as well as Krypto Saves the Day!: School Bus Scuffle.

To this, a trio of additional features will follow soon on Digital only, including audio commentary with James Gunn, a Gag Reel, and Deleted Scenes (TBA). You can see the cover artwork above left and also below…

Note that a 4K + Blu-ray Steelbook SKU will also be available.

Also today, Disney and Pixar have officially set Adrian Molina, Domee Shi, and Madeline Sharafian’s CG-animated Elio (2025) for Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release on 9/9, with the Digital release expected on 8/19. The 4K SKU will arrive in Steelbook packaging. Extras will include Inside the Communiverse: The World and Characters of Elio, Out of This World: An Astro Q&A, Astronomic Art Class: Ooooo and Glordon, Extraterrestrial Easter Eggs and Fun Facts, Galactic Gag Reel, and Deleted Scenes (including Bike Chase, Garden Party, Carver Legend, Questa’s Second Test, and Home Visit).

Our friends at Lionsgate have also officially announced the 15th Anniversary Lionsgate Limited release of the Spierig Brothers’ Daybreakers (2009) on 4K + Blu-ray Steelbook on 9/16, followed by Rob Zombie’s The Devil’s Rejects (2005) in Amazon-exclusive 4K + Blu-ray Steelbook in honor of its 20th anniversary on 10/15.

Daybreakers will include significant new special features—Building the World of Daybreakers, Art and Craft: The Actors of Daybreakers, a Gag Reel, Art Department and Lighting Tests, Costume, Hair, and Make-up Tests, First Subsider Test, Make-up Effects Tapes, Stunt Department, and On the Set of Daybreaker—along with the legacy special features. By the way, you can also pre-order Lionsgate Limited-exclusive 4K Ultra HD Steelbook editions of Ivan Reitman’s Meatballs (1979) and Darren Aronofsky’s Requiem for a Dream (2000) while you’re over there. Those are due to ship on 9/16.

Also today, A24 has announced the 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray pre-order of Ari Aster’s Eddington (2025) on A24 Shop for release in October. each will include a 33-minute documentary and 6 collectible postcards. You can learn more and pre-order them here.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has also set Dave Chapelle’s comedy special Killin’ Them Softly (2000) for DVD only release on 10/7.

Giant Pictures has set Frank Marshall’s Rather (2023) documentary for Blu-ray and DVD release today.

And finally, Kino Lorber Studio Classics has set Dan Curtis’ TV anthology film Dead of Night (1977) for Blu-ray release on 10/28.
