Meanwhile, our friends at Imprint have just revealed their October Blu-ray slate, which is set to include Uli Edel’s Last Exit to Brooklyn (1989), Garry Marshall’s Frankie and Johnnie (1991), Alan Rudolph’s Afterglow (1997), Iain Softley’s K-Pax (2001), Paul Auster’s Lulu on the Bridge (1998), Phillip Noyce’s The Quiet American (2002), Ryan Fleck’s Half Nelson (2006), and the Directed by… John Huston box set, which includes Wise Blood (1979), Under the Volcano (1984), and The Dead (1987).
Kino Lorber Studio Classics has set Joseph Losey’s King and Country (1964) for Blu-ray release on 10/21 as part of the Kino Cult line.
Universal is releasing an Amazon-exclusive 4K Steelbooks of Brian De Palma’s Scarface (1983) and Emma Tammi’s Five Nights at Freddy’s (2023) on 10/7.
Also, Synapse Films is finally taking pre-orders for their long-awaited 4K Ultra HD release of Douglas McKeown’s The Deadly Spawn (1983). You can find that here on their website.
Screenbound Pictures in the UK has set Jim Wynorski’s Return of the Swamp Thing (1989) for 4K UHD release on 10/10.
Decal and Neon are releasing Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck (2025) on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K UHD on 9/30.
Severin Films has set Roy Ward Baker’s Asylum (1972) and Can Evrenol’s Baskin (2015) for release on 10/15.
The MVD Rewind Collection has set Ted Bafaloukos’ Rockers (1978) for 4K Ultra HD release on 11/25.
Ignite Films and Eagle Rock have set a wide-release 4K version of Stuart Gordon’s Re-Animator (1985) on 11/11. The deluxe version is already available.
88 Films has set Joe D’Amato’s Eleven Days, Eleven Nights 2 for release on 11/25. They also have Sergio Garrone’s SS Experiment Love Camp (1976) for release in 4K on 10/14.
IFC Films will release Sean Byrne’s Dangerous Animals (2025) in 4K Steelbook on 10/7.
Cauldron Films will release Paul Grau’s Mad Foxes (1981) in 4K Ultra HD on 10/14.
And for you music fans, the official Björk website is releasing Björk: Cornucopia Live on 4K UHD + Blu-ray on 10/28, featuring a 24-track 2024 concert filmed in Lisbon, Portugal with Dolby Atmos audio. It will also be available on Blu-ray, DVD, CD, and Vinyl.
Finally today, we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the passing of NASA astronaut and explorer Jim Lovell, whose four space flights included Gemini 7, Gemini 12, Apollo 8, and Apollo 13. Lovell orbited the Moon twice, and he was famously played by Tom Hanks in Ron Howard’s movie version of Apollo 13 (1995). Lovell was also one of the kindest human beings I’ve ever had the honor to meet. He was 97 years old. You can read more about him here and here. I also highly recommend checking out Paul J. Hildebrant’s excellent First to the Moon: The Journey of Apollo 8 (2018) documentary, in which Lovell features prominently. You can watch it for free on YouTube below…
