Well folks, this is going to be our last post until Monday as we take the rest of the week off to spend the Christmas holiday with our families. But we do have some cool stuff for you…

First, we’ve got a pair of new Blu-ray reviews. Our own Tim Salmons has checked out Scream Factory’s Lord of Illusions and Criterion’s The Innocents, and both are well worth a look. Also, in the spirit of the holiday season, we present my review of Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life on Blu-ray, as well as Dr. Jahnke’s look at A Christmas Story, and Barrie Maxwell’s thoughts on White Christmas.  While we’re at it, here’s Die Hard too. Because nothing quite says Christmas like “Yippee ki-yay!” Enjoy!  [Read on here…]

By the way, if you’re looking for a Christmas gift for a sci-fi movie fan, Amazon has a sale going all this week: 78% off a bundle of Fox’s Alien Anthology box set and Prometheus for just $20. Crazy price!

In announcement news today, Universal has officially confirmed the 2/10 Blu-ray and DVD release of Nightcrawler. Extras will include audio commentary with writer/director Dan Gilroy, producer Tony Gilroy, and editor John Gilroy, as well as the If It Bleeds, It Leads making of documentary. The digital release will be available on 1/27.

Lionsgate has set Atom Egoyan’s The Captive for Blu-ray and DVD release on 3/3. Extras will include director’s commentary, a featurette, an alternate ending, and deleted scenes.

Cinedigm has set Open Windows for Blu-ray and DVD release on 1/27, featuring Elijah Wood and Sasha Grey.

PBS Distribution has set Masterpiece: The Jewel in the Crown for DVD only release on 1/13. PBS will also release Downton Abbey: Season 5 on Blu-ray and DVD on 1/27.

And finally today, Sony has decided to release the previously-cancelled The Interview into theaters after all. Click here for more on that.

All right, here’s a look at come cool new cover artwork…
