We’ve got a pair of new Blu-ray reviews for you all to enjoy today. First up, our own Tim Salmons has given Criterion’s recent edition of The Fisher King a look. Also, Jim Hemphill has turned in his thoughts on Kino Lorber’s forthcoming edition of Diggstown. Do give them a read.

Elsewhere here at The Bits today, Russell Hammond has posted the weekly update of the Release Dates & Artwork section with all the latest Blu-ray and DVD cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, a portion of anything you order from Amazon through our links goes to help support our work here at The Bits and we greatly appreciate it!  [Read on here…]

Now then… in release news today, Amazon is now taking pre-orders for their retail-exclusive Walking Dead: Season Five – Limited Edition Blu-ray set from Anchor Bay (SRP $134.99 – street date TBA), which is a rather gruesome zombie crawler. Here’s what it looks like (click on the image to pre-order)...

The Walking Dead: Season Five (Blu-ray Limited Edition)

By the way, Disney and Marvel’s Ant-Man is also available for pre-order on Amazon on 2-disc Blu-ray 3D Combo and 1-disc Blu-ray (street date TBA).

Meanwhile, Shout! and Scream Factory have set The Return of Count Yorga for Blu-ray release on 10/13.

Lionsgate will release Bates Motel: Season Three on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/13 as well (SRP $49.98 for the Blu-ray).

Also coming on 10/13 from Universal is a new Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas: Grinchmas Edition on Blu-ray (SRP $19.98).

In addition, Universal has set a re-issue of Heroes: The Complete Series for release on 18-disc Blu-ray on 10/13 (SRP $99.98). Universal has set the Jean-Claude Van Damme catalog titles Hard Target and Sudden Death for Blu-ray release on 10/13. They also have a remastered Blu-ray of the animated The Land Before Time coming that day as well. And Dragon Nest: Warriors’ Dawn is due on Blu-ray then too.

Here’s a bit more cool Universal news: The studio has set Back to the Future: The Complete Animated Series for separate 4-disc DVD-only release on 10/20. That will be welcome information for those of you who already have the films on Blu-ray but just want the TV series.

Now then... we have the cover artwork (see below) for Sony’s new Christine Blu-ray (due 9/29), which we believe is due to include deleted scenes, audio commentary with director John Carpenter and Keith Gordon, and 3 featurettes (Christine: Ignition, Christine: Fast and Furious, and Christine: Finish Line).

Fox and MGM’s individual Bond actor Blu-ray collections are now available for pre-order on Blu-ray on Amazon for 9/15 (SRP $29.99 each): Here’s the Sean Connery Collection: Volume 1, the Sean Connery Collection: Volume 2, the Daniel Craig Collection, the Roger Moore Collection: Volume 1, the Roger Moore Collecton: Volume 2, the Timothy Dalton Collection, and the Pierce Brosnan Collection. The poor George Lazenby set is just SRP $16.99. All the individual films are available as well (SRP $16.99 each).

Synapse Films has set their Mosquito: 20th Anniversary Edition for release on Blu-ray on 10/13. Also coming that day is their Blu-ray of Manos: The Hands of Fate! They have Raffaele Picchio’s banned-in-Italy film Morituris coming on Blu-ray on 9/8. DVD versions of all three titles will also be available. And Synapse has further revealed that they’re working on a Blu-ray and DVD release of Rene Daalder’s Massacre at Central High for sometime in 2016.

Finally today, Drafthouse Films has set Cédric Jimenez’s The Connection for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/29 (SRP $29.93 and $24.99).

One last note today: We want to take a moment to acknowledge the passing of actors Theodore Bikel (My Fair Lady, The Defiant Ones, The African Queen) and Alex Rocco (The Godfather, That Thing You Do, A Bug’s Life). You can read more here and here at The New York Times. Both will be missed.

Here’s a look at the Blu-ray and DVD cover artwork for some of the titles mentioned above, with Amazon pre-order links if available…

Ant-Man (Blu-ray 3D)    Christine (Sony Blu-ray)    Back to the Future: The Animated Series (DVD)

Bates Motel: Season Three (Blu-ray Disc)    The Connection (Blu-ray Disc)    Manos: The Hands of Fate (Blu-ray Disc)

Stay tuned...
