Amazon announces the FireTV set-top box, plus complete Mr. Magoo and I Spy DVD sets & more!

The big news today is that Amazon has announced that it’s getting into the set-top box business, with their own streaming content device that’s designed to be hooked up to your TV and compete with Apple TV, Roku and Microsoft’s Xbox. The Amazon FireTV sells for just $99, and includes access to Netflix, Amazon Prime Instant Video, Hulu Plus, WatchESPN, Pandora Radio, Showtime Anytime and more. It also offers voice search, a quad-core processor, a dedicated GPU, 2 GB of memory, dual-band Wi-Fi, and of course it’s 1080p HD compatible with Dolby Digital Plus surround sound. Amazon FireTV streaming media set-top box ($99)

In terms of title release news today, Shout! Factory will release Bushido Man: Seven Deadly Battles on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/10.

Shout! has also set the Mr. Magoo: The Theatrical Collection – 1949-1959 box set for release on DVD on 4/22 (SRP $34.93). The 4-disc set will include all 53 theatrical cartoons, including 12 in anamorphic widescreen for the first time, as well as the feature film 1001 Arabian Nights. You also get the vintage A Princess For Magoo: The Making of 1001 Arabian Nights documentary, an interview with film critic and historian Leonard Maltin, a documentary on UPA & Mr. Magoo, and 14 commentaries. All of the shorts have been newly remastered in their original theatrical aspect ratios. Very cool indeed!

On the TV front, Timeless Media Group is releasing I Spy: The Complete Series on DVD on 6/24 (SRP $129.99). The 18-disc box set will include all 82 episodes.

While we’re talking TV, StarVista Entertainment and Time Life are releasing China Beach: The Complete Third Season on DVD on 5/6 (SRP $29.95).

And Lionsgate has set Little House on the Prairie: Season Two Deluxe Remastered Edition for Blu-ray and DVD release on 5/6.

Meanwhile, Anchor Bay Entertainment and RADiUS-TWC will release The Art of the Steal on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/6, starring Kurt Russell and Matt Dillon.

ARC Entertainment has set Locker 13 for DVD release on 4/29.

And Kino Video has set the Redemption titles House of Mortal Sin and Home Before Midnight for Blu-ray and DVD release on 6/17. This in addition to the BD and DVD release of The Man Who Lies and Eden and After on 5/27.
