Meanwhile, here’s a little bit of a surprise: Warner Bros. is also releasing Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion (2011) on 4K Ultra HD on 2/27. The disc will offer a trio of legacy featurettes, including The Reality of Contagion, The Contagion Detectives, and Contagion: How a Virus Changes the World. Note that, per the studio, the remastering process was completed at Warner MPI and was overseen by the director. No Blu-ray version will be included in the package.
And Universal has set Kasi Lemmons’ Harriet (2019) and Ol Parker’s Ticket to Paradise (2022) for release on 4K Ultra HD on 2/13.
Also today, Lionsgate has announced the Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital release of Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla (2023) on 2/13. Extras will include 2 featurettes (Brushed with Beauty and The Making of Priscilla) as well as the theatrical trailer.
On 3/5, look for a trio of Walmart-exclusive Blu-ray Steelbook releases from Lionsgate, including David Cronenberg’s Shivers (1975), David Worth’s Kickboxer (1989), and Richard Alan Greenberg’s Little Monsters (1989). The studio has a trio of wide-release 4K Ultra HD Steelbook titles coming on 3/5 as well, including David Mackenzie’s Hell or High Water (2016), Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge (2016), and Pete Travis’s Dredd (2012).
Our friends over at Powerhouse Films and Indicator have a pair of great new 4K Ultra HD Limited Editions coming on 2/27, both of them Ozploitation titles, including Richard Frankin’s Patrick (1978) and Simon Wincer’s Snapshot (1979)! Each features new 4K restorations from the original camera negatives, with Dolby Vision HDR, and a ton of extras. Patrick includes three different versions of the film (the original Australian theatrical version, the shorter US theatrical version with American dubbing, and the Italian theatrical version featuring an alternate score by the prog band Goblin and with English subtitles for the first time). And Snapshot features two different versions of the film—the 93-minute theatrical version and a 101-minute director’s cut (mastered from the best surviving elements). And on the music front, The Rolling Stones and Mercury Records have officially announced The Rolling Stones: Live at the Wiltern for release on DVD + CD, Blu-ray + CD, CD, and LP formats. The CD component will feature two discs, while the vinyl LPs will include three discs (and there will be black, gold, and “black and bronze” color variants available at different retailers). The concert was recorded live in L.A.’s Wiltern Theatre on November of 2002, during the band’s Licks World Tour, and it includes 21 tracks: Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Live with Me, Neighbours, Hand of Fate, No Expectations, Beast of Burden, Stray Cat Blues, Dance, Part 1, Everybody Needs Somebody to Love (with Solomon Burke), That’s How Strong My Love Is, Going to a Go-Go, Band Introductions, Thru and Thru, You Don’t Have to Mean It, Can’t You Hear Me Knocking, Rock Me Baby, Bitch, Honky Tonk Women, Start Me Up, Brown Sugar, and Tumbling Dice. And finally today, the UHD Alliance has just announced some new developments related to its Filmmaker Mode initiative at CES 2024. The first involves automatic implementation of Filmmaker Mode for Apple TV+ content on LG and Samsung displays.
