All right, we’ve got a little more announcement news for you today here at The Bits. But first, a new feature...

Our own Michael Coate has just posted a new History, Legacy & Showmanship column celebrating the 60th anniversary of The Dick Van Dyke Show. It features a great Q&A with television historian Herbie J. Pilato, who reflects on the series’ appeal, impact, and legacy six decades after its debut. We hope you all enjoy it!

Now then, let’s get to the announcement news...

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has just announced Wes Anderson’s latest film, The French Dispatch, for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/28, with the Digital release (including 4K) set for 12/14. Audio will be DTS-HD MA. There’s no indication of special features, but you can reasonably imagine that a Criterion special edition is forthcoming next year. The film stars Benicio Del Toro, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Timothée Chalamet, Jeffrey Wright, Léa Seydoux, Frances McDormand, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Christoph Waltz, Edward Norton, and Jason Schwartzman. You can see the cover artwork at left and also below. [Read on here...]

Also newly announced for Blu-ray and DVD today is IFC Films’ horror-comedy Werewolves Within, which is set to street on 12/7.

In 4K news, Kino Lorber Studio Classics has just revealed that they’re working on a new UHD release of Billy Wilder’s Some Like It Hot (1959). Look for that to street on 1/18/22.

Paramount will release its non-Steelbook version of Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous on 4K Ultra HD on 2/1/22.

Amazon is now taking pre-orders for the latest Daniel Craig 007 film No Time to Die. The street date is officially listed as 12/21. You can pre-order the 4K here or below.

And while Warner’s Citizen Kane is a Criterion 4K release here in the States (street date 11/23), in the UK Warner is releasing it themselves as an elaborate (and all-region) 4K Ultra HD 80th Anniversary Collector’s Edition box set on 12/13. Here’s what it looks like (click here or on the image to pre-order it from Amazon.co.uk)...

In other news, Disney has just announced that starting on Friday (11/12—aka Disney+ Day) a selection of 13 Marvel MCU films on Disney+ will be available with IMAX’s Expanded Aspect Ratio (1.90:1) for select scenes. These include the debut of Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings, as well as Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and The Wasp, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, and Black Widow. Additional titles will follow, and the sound will include “immersive IMAX signature sound by DTS.” You can read the complete press release here.

Speaking of Disney+ Day, it’s rumored that additional previews or behind-the-scenes content for future Star Wars series may show up on the streaming service that day as well, including possibly The Book of Boba Fett, Andor, and Obi-Wan.

Finally today, we have to take a moment to acknowledge the passing of actor Dean Stockwell, who’s best known for playing Al Calavicci on TV’s Quantum Leap. He also appeared in such films as Wim Wenders’ Paris, Texas and David Lynch’s Dune and Blue Velvet, and also on TV as Brother Cavil on Ron Moore’s reimagined Battlestar Galactica. He’ll certainly be missed. You can read more here via The New York Times.

We’ll leave you with a look at the cover artwork for a few of the titles mentioned above. Click on the covers to pre-order them on Amazon.com if available. (Note that the No Time to Die cover artwork is temp only)...
