Back to the Beach, Sonic 2, South Park: S24 & Superman & Lois: S2 official, plus Casanova (1927) & more

As always, we’ve got more new disc reviews for you today…

Tim has taken a look at Jack Cardiff’s The Long Ships (1964), a Viking adventure film on Blu-ray from Imprint Films in Australia.

And Dennis has turned in his thoughts on Mark O’Brien’s The Righteous (2021) on Blu-ray from our friends at Arrow Video.

In announcement news today, Paramount has made their Paramount Presents Blu-ray of Back to the Beach (1987) official for release on Blu-ray on 8/9. Newly-remastered from a new 4K scan of the film, the disc will include a new Filmmaker Focus featurette with director Lyndall Hobbs that includes previously-unseen home movies from the set. The studio will also release South Park: The Complete Twenty-Fourth Season on Blu-ray and DVD on 8/16.

And Paramount has confirmed the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 8/9.

Also today, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has also set Superman & Lois: The Complete Second Season for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/27. You’ll get all 15 episodes along with a pair of featurettes (Fractured: The Heart of Bizarro and The DC Heroes: Path to Glory).

Lionsgate will release the horror-comedy American Carnage on Blu-ray and DVD on 8/30.

Music Box Films will release Xavier Giannoli’s Lost Illusions on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/20, with the Digital release due on 8/16.

And Flicker Alley, Lobster Films, and the Blackhawk Films Collection will release a new 2-disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo edition of Alexandre Volkoff’s Casanova (1927) on 9/27. Restored from a new scan of the nitrate camera negative and an original diacetate stencil-colored reel from la Cinémathèque française in Paris. Extras will include a brand new orchestral score by Gunter A. Buchwald, an interview with Buchwald, an image gallery, and a souvenir booklet. Subtitles will be included in English, French, and Italian.

Finally this afternoon, Criterion’s October slate of titles is starting to come online for pre-order on Amazon, so we’ll leave you with that cover artwork again, along with art for Casanova, Paramount’s new Godfather Trilogy and Scream 2 4K Ultra HD Steelbooks, and more, all of which are now (or will soon be) available for pre-order by clicking on the art below…
