Eclipse 2024, the Dune: Part Two street date, One from the Heart: Reprise, Drive-Away Dolls & Warner fixes the Rocky: Knockout Collection 4K discs!

All right, I hope all of you guys here in the States checked out the solar eclipse this morning! Here in Southern California, the Moon only covered about 54% of the Sun at maximum, but I took the scope out this morning anyway and got a couple good pictures that I’ll share below the break.

In the meantime, the big news today is unofficial, but it comes from enough retail sources now that I’m confident it’s accurate: Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment will release Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two (2024) on Blu-ray, DVD, 4K Ultra HD, and 4K UHD Steelbook on 5/14. And while we’ll have to wait for the official press release (expected anytime now) to be sure, based on the promo images the studio is sharing with some of the pre-order listings, it looks like the aspect ratio for the title may be full 1.78:1. This would replicate the maximum IMAX image area for home viewing. Again, that’s not certain yet. So fingers crossed, we’ll know more very soon. Also newly announced today by Lionsgate is Francis Ford Coppola’s One from the Heart: Reprise (1982), which will finally arrive here in the States in 4K Ultra HD on 5/7. The entire film has been restored from the original camera negative and six minutes of footage have been added back to the film by Coppola himself. The 4K package will include a UHD disc of the new cut plus the original 1982 Theatrical Version on Blu-ray, with all of its legacy special features. [Read on here...]

The 4K disc will feature audio commentary by Coppola, a new 2024 trailer, and 5 new featurettes (including The Look of One from the Heart, The Cast of One from the Heart, The Choreography of One from the Heart, Reinventing the Musical: Baz Luhrmann One from the Heart, and One from the Heart: Reprise, Restoration Comparison). You can see the cover artwork below. Audio will include English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and also English LPCM 2.0 stereo.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics has just announced that they’ll release Peter Hyams’ Narrow Margin (1990) on 4K Ultra HD on 6/11, featuring a new 4K SDR scan and remaster from StudioCanal.

The company has also revealed that they’re working on a new Blu-ray release of Bob Kellett’s Are You Being Served? The Movie (1977). That’s officially listed as coming soon.

Sony has just officially set SJ Clarkson’s Madam Web (2024) for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD—as well as a Limited Edition 4K/Blu-ray Steelbook—on 4/20. That will include 4 featurettes, a deleted scene, a gag reel, and Easter eggs. The 4K disc will feature Dolby Atmos audio.

Universal has just set Ethan Coen’s Drive-Away Dolls (2024) for release on Blu-ray on 4/23, with the Digital release expected on 4/12. Extras will include 3 featurettes (The Drive-Away Gang, Drive-Away Dolls: An Ethan and Tricia Project, and Road Trip Essentials).

Universal has officially set Kung Fu Panda 4 for Digital release on 4/9 (tomorrow). The physical media release date is still TBA.

And Well Go USA will release Kim Han-Min’s Noryang: Deadly Sea (2023) on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/14.

Finally today, we have a nice surprise for you Rocky fans: Over the weekend, we officially confirmed that Warner Bros. has corrected the audio and framing errors in its Rocky: The Knockout Collection 4K Ultra HD box set, released back in February 2023! You can find the complete story about how we confirmed this here on our Patreon page today (see this link). Suffice it to say that I now have all four corrected 4K discs in hand. Everything we currently know is in the Patreon post, so please check that out before asking questions. What we do know for sure is that the studio is currently planning to release a new Rocky I-VI 4K box set later this year, and the corrected discs will be in there along with the new 4Ks of Rocky V and Rocky Balboa that we revealed last week.
