The big news today is that 20th Century Fox has officially set Alejandro Iñárritu’s Birdman (or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) for Blu-ray and DVD release on 2/17. The film is already available digitally. Extras on both disc versions will include Birdman: All-Access and a gallery of Chivo’s on-set photos. To this, the Blu-ray will add the A Conversation with Michael Keaton and Alejandro G. Iñárritu featurette. The running time for the feature is 119 minutes, with audio in English 5.1 DTS-HD MA, English 5.1 Descriptive Audio, Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital and French 5.1 DTS (subtitles are English SDH, Spanish and French). We’ve a couple of quick items for you here at The Bits today. First though, here at The Bits our own Todd Doogan has turned in a new Doogan’s Queue/Gripe Soda column running down this week’s latest releases on Blu-ray and DVD. Doogan has also reviewed a new DVD only movie release from MPI – Raze. Do give it a look.

We’ve reached the end!  The Hell Plaza Oktoberfest begins its final day here at The Digital Bits!

Dr. Jahnke’s final Oktoberfest review for you on this chilly Halloween morning is a true classic of horror cinema that’s yet to be surpassed: F.W. Quick important note:  Because of all the extra traffic this week, we’re going to be upgrading our server this evening to be able to handle these kinds of traffic spikes more easily.  We may be down for a couple hours later tonight but we should be back up by tomorrow morning better than ever.  Certainly by Monday, Scotty tells us that the warp core should be purring like a kitten again.  So thanks for your patience and know that things will be much better soon.

Now then, there’s big release news today…

Our friends at Kino Lorber have announced their November Blu-ray and DVD release slate and there are some real gems, including a Nosferatu: 2-Disc Deluxe Remastered Edition (DVD & Blu-ray) and a Russian Ark: Anniversary Edition (Blu-ray and DVD) on 11/19!  F.W. Murnau’s Nosferatu will include two versions of the 1922 classic, the original German Intertitles (with optional English subs) or English Intertitles, Hans Erdmann’s original 1922 score in 5.1 Surround or 2.0 Stereo, the 53-minute The Language of Shadows documentary chronicling Murnau’s early career, clips and highlights from other Murnau films and a photo gallery.  Features on Russian Ark are still TBA.  [Read on here…]
