Knight Rider 4K is official from Universal, plus The Two Jakes, Undisputed, In a Violent Nature & more new Blu-ray & UHD titles

We start the new week today with three more new disc reviews, including…

Tim’s look at Robert S. Baker and Monty Berman’s Jack the Ripper (1959) in 4K Ultra HD from Severin Films.

Stuart’s thoughts on the Audie Murphy Collection IV Blu-ray box set from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, which includes the films Kurt Neumann’s The Kid from Texas (1950), Budd Boetticher’s The Cimarron Kid (1952), and Nathan Juran’s Drums Across the River (1954).

And Dennis’ take on William Friedkin’s Sorcerer (1977) on Blu-ray from the Criterion Collection. (Note that we reviewed the 4K Ultra HD edition here at the site last week.)

In announcement news today, we finally have the official word that Universal Studios Home Entertainment is releasing NBC’s Knight Rider: The Complete Series (1982-86) on 4K Ultra HD on 7/22. The 21-disc set will include all 90 episodes in their original 1.33:1 TV aspect ratio, plus previously released special features including the Knight Rider (2000) TV movie, and apparently some new features too. What we don’t yet know is whether there will be HDR, whether all the original music will be intact, and what exactly the extras will be. But we’ll endeavor to find out. The SRP is $129.98. You can see the cover artwork at left and also below.

Knight Rider: The Complete Series (4K Ultra HD)

Also today, Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has set John Lee Hancock’s The Little Things (2021) for 4K Ultra HD release on 7/8.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics has revealed a pair of new 4K catalog titles for release on 8/26, including Jack Nicholson’s The Two Jakes (1990) and Walter Hill’s Undisputed (2002).

Also coming from KLSC on 8/26 are Enrique Lopez Eguiluz’s Frankenstein’s Bloody Terror (1968) on Blu-ray 3D (with the help of the 3-D Film Archive, including stereoscopic and anaglyph versions) and Wood Allen’s Scoop (2006) on regular Blu-ray.

Meanwhile, Umbrella has set Vincenzo Natali’s Cypher (2002) for 4K Ultra HD release on 9/12, along with Jonathan King’s Black Sheep (2006). On 8/15, they’ll release David Webb Peoples’ The Salute of the Jugger (1989). And they’re announcing more still titles for release in October tomorrow.

Shout! Studios has confirmed that John Woo’s A Better Tomorrow Trilogy (1986-89) and Tsui Hark’s Peking Opera Blues (1986) will be available be available in 4K Digital on 7/8, with Woo’s The Killer (1989) following on 7/22. Physical 4K editions will be released later this year.

Also, Shudder will release Chris Nash’s In a Violent Nature (2024) on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on 7/8.

And retailers are beginning to take pre-orders on the eventual Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD release of Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later (2025) and Jonathan Entwistle’s Karate Kid: Legends (2025) which are now in theaters. Both are Sony titles.
