Before we get started today, we have a pair of new Blu-ray reviews for you from Dennis—he’s taken a look at George Cukor’s Holiday, newly available on disc from The Criterion Collection, and also Judy from Lionsgate. Enjoy!

In announcement news today, we’ve got word that Universal plans to release Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite on Blu-ray and DVD on 1/28. The disc will include the Q&A with Director Bong Joon-ho featurette. There are no plans yet for a UK 4K Ultra HD release here in the States, though the film is coming to physical 4K in France, German, and elsewhere. Unfortunately, those discs will not have English subtitles for the original Korean language audio. Fingers crossed that Universal will decide to release a 4K if sales of the Blu-ray are strong. You can see the Blu-ray artwork above left.

Also today, we’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List to reflect a bunch of new street dates and pre-order information we’ve gotten in from retail and industry sources. Here’s the gist (and if you click on the titles links provided, you can pre-order the titles on Amazon if available)... [Read on here...]

All right, as we posted earlier, we’re kicking things off today with Tim Salmons’ review of Scream’s new Mad Max: Collector’s Edition. The disc streets on 5/5 and is well worth a look.

In announcement news today, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has set CHAPPiE for Blu-ray and DVD release on 6/16, with the digital version due on 5/26. Both disc versions will feature the We Are Tetravaal featurette. To this, the Blu-ray will add 8 more featurettes (Chappie: The Streetwise Professor, Arms Race: The Weapons and Robots, Bringing Chappie to Life: The Visual Effects, From Tetra Vaal to Chappie, Keep It Gangster, The Reality of Robotics, Jozi: Real City and a Sci-Fi Setting, and Rogue Robot: Deconstructing the Stunts & Special Effects), along with an extended scenes (A Very Bad Man) and The Art of Chappie photo gallery. There’s also a Blomkamp³ Limited Edition Collection Blu-ray coming that same day that includes CHAPPiE, District 9, and Elysium plus a booklet. [Read on here…]

Just a quick update today as we close out the week…

The major bit of release news today is sure to please you Studio Ghibli fans. Disney has announced the Blu-ray release of Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away (2001) and Hiroyuki Morita’s The Cat Returns (2002) on Blu-ray DVD Combo on 6/16. Spirited Away will include an Introduction by John Lasseter, 3 featurettes (The Art of Spirited Away and Behind the Microphone), original Japanese storyboards, the Nippon Television Special, and original Japanese trailers and TV spots. The Cat Returns will include 2 featurettes (The Making of The Cat Returns and Behind the Microphone), original Japanese storyboards, and original Japanese trailers and TV spots. We’re hoping that Disney will include proper English translation subs this time rather than a dub transcript (we’re trying to find out).  [Read on here…]

All right, this will be a bit of a quick post because there’s not a lot of news to report and we’re working on new Blu-ray reviews for you guys. As such, we have three for you today.

Dr. Jahnke’s Hell Plaza Oktoberfest review this morning is a dandy – Scream Factory’s new Nightbreed: The Director’s Cut – Limited Edition Blu-ray set. It’s another home run from a company that seems to do nothing but these days.

Speaking of which, I’ve checked in today with a review of Shout! Factory’s outstanding and remastered Pee-wee’s Playhouse: The Complete Series box set on Blu-ray – a title we first revealed at our panel way back at San Diego Comic-Con in 2013. The remastering and extras were personally supervised by Pee-wee himself, Paul Reubens, and the result is pretty impressive.  [Read on here…]
