Afternoon, folks. It’s a slow news day on the home video front, so we just have a couple things for you...

First, Tim has turned in another good Blu-ray review for you to check out, this one featuring a look at Scream Factory’s new box set, The Paul Naschy Collection. Naschy was a prolific Spanish actor, writer, and director of horror cinema, with a LONG filmography. If you’re new to his work, Scream’s box set is a great place to start. The 5-disc set includes Horror Rises from the Tomb (1975 – aka El Espanto Surge de la Tumba), Vengeance of the Zombies (1975 – aka La Rebelión de las Muertas), Blue Eyes of the Broken Doll (1976 – aka Los Ojos Azules de la Muñeca Rota), Human Beasts (1980 – aka El Carnaval de las Bestias), and Night of the Werewolf (1981 – aka El Retorno del Hombre Lobo). Do give it a look. [Read on here…]

All right, we’ve got some great new release announcement news to report today and some BD and DVD catalog news as well...

First up, Universal has just set the Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar! for Blu-ray and DVD release on 6/7 (SRP $34.98 and $29.98). Both versions will include 4 behind-the-scenes featurettes (Directing Hollywood, The Stars Align, An Era of Glamour, and Magic of a Bygone Era). You can see the cover artwork to the left and below (with the Amazon.com pre-order link).  [Read on here…]

We’re starting today with a new Pick-Ups column from our own Tim Salmons, featuring reviews of two recent Kino Lorber Classics Blu-rays – Sam Whiskey and More Dead Than Alive. Do check them out.

Russell Hammond has also updated the Release Dates & Artwork section with all the latest Blu-ray and DVD cover artwork, as well as Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, anytime you place orders for literally anything after clicking through our links, you’re helping to support our work here at The Bits. So you could click through one of our Blu-ray links, then buy the Blu-ray, some books, and a computer, for example. All that matters is that you click through one of our links first, then anything you buy in that shopping session counts. We really do appreciate that support – it makes a big difference in helping us to keep going.  [Read on here…]

We’ve just a quick update for you today here at The Bits, but we do have some new reviews...

Our own Tim Salmons has checked in with a review of the Coen Brothers’ classic Fargo (the new 4K remastered edition) on Blu-ray from Fox and MGM, as well as Fox’s new Fargo: The Complete First Season TV series on BD (at least a little bit more of which actually takes place in Fargo, North Dakota, which is where I’m from). And since we’re on the topic, we thought it would appropriate to upgrade Dr. Jahnke’s fine analysis of Fargo on DVD (from way back in “aught four”) into the new review database as well. Enjoy!  [Read on here…]

An Honor To Be Nominated: A Serious Man

If it can be difficult to remember who won the Academy Award for Best Picture, it’s downright mind-bending trying to remember everything else it was up against. In An Honor To Be Nominated, I’ll be taking a look back at some of the movies the Oscar didn’t go to and trying to determine if they were robbed, if the Academy got it right, or if they should ever have been nominated in the first place.
