Burnt Offerings for September 30, 2014

This is going to be a quick one this week, thanks primarily to the studios for their usual end-of-month slowdown. But we’ll still take a look at the few new MOD releases and offer a glance at any interesting islands in the streams. I apologize for that last joke, it was beneath us both. Doogan’s Queue for September 30, 2014

Sniff... it’s the last street date in September. So long old friend. But never fear, little ones, it’s also the first week of October and thus the beginning of my favorite time of the year. Halloween is just the bee’s knees, ain’t it? I have a whole slew of fond memories going back -cough- years and so many favorite things that only come out at this time of year. Mostly food, but other stuff too. You’ll probably see me get nostalgic as the month wears on. But I’ll try and keep a cap on it.

This is a light week, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some great titles coming. This week’s the list starts with probably biggest title of the month, maybe even the biggest title time of year! That title... [Read on here…]

We’ve just a quick one for you today, as there’s not a lot of announcement news to report. But let’s clear the decks on what there is first…

Lionsgate has announced the 10/28 release of Life of Crime and The Prince on Blu-ray, DVD and digital.

Shout! Factory will release the animated Thunder and the House of Magic on Blu-ray 3D Combo and DVD on 9/30.  [Read on here…]

We’ve got some nifty bits of announcement news for you today, so let’s get to it…

First up, Paramount will release Hercules on Blu-ray Combo and Blu-ray 3D Combo on 11/4. Each will include both the theatrical and extended cuts of the film, along with audio commentary by director Brett Ratner and producer Beau Flynn, 15 deleted/extended scenes, and 5 featurettes (including Brett Ratner and Dwayne Johnson: An Introduction, Hercules and his Mercenaries, Weapons!, The Bessi Battle, and The Effects of Hercules).  [Read on here…]

Our very own Dr. Adam Jahnke has just posted his overall review of Scream Factory and Anchor Bay’s terrific new Halloween: The Complete Collection – Deluxe Edition Blu-ray box set! Jahnke talks overall quality and content, and reviews the first three films in the set. You can also look at this review as a preview of this year’s Hell Plaza Oktoberfest (which kicks off on 10/1), for which he’ll review all the rest of the films in the set plus a whole lot more.
