Fox Home Entertainment has just announced the Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD, 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, and Digital HD release of Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children on 12/13 (see the official announcement by Burton here). The 4K SKU will include Dolby Atmos audio. Extras on all the BD versions will include 4 featurettes (The Peculiar Story, The Peculiars, Hollows and Ex-Hollows, and Map of Days), Florence + The Machine’s Wish That You Were Here music video, and a gallery of photos and never-before-seen sketches by Tim Burton. [Read on here…]

Also, we’ve confirmed with Universal that their 3-disc King Kong: Ultimate Edition Blu-ray, due on 2/7, will include a movie Blu-ray (BD-50) with both the theatrical and extended editions plus audio commentary (possibly the same BD disc as released previously), a movie DVD (DVD-9), and a brand new Bonus Disc Blu-ray (also BD-50) containing all the previous DVD extras. Audio on the movie BD will be DTS-HD MA 5.1, with Dolby Digital 5.1 on the DVD. We don’t yet know if the rare Production Diary on the film’s score (that was dropped from the previous disc releases when original composer Howard Shore left the project and was replaced by James Newton Howard) will be included on the Bonus Disc.

Finally today, we have word that Hulu – hot on the heels of having lost The Criterion Collection catalog to Criterion’s own new FilmStruck streaming service, has just launched 4K Ultra HD streaming content on their service. What’s most interesting about this is that – if you have a fast enough Internet connection – Hulu is offering 20 classic James Bond films (including Dr. No, The Man with a Golden Gun, and GoldenEye) in 4K, along with some of their original series content. Pretty cool. Let me know what you think the quality if any of you check them out. You can read more here at Variety.

All right, that’s all for now. We’ll be focusing on reviews over the coming days, so watch for several new Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray reviews next week. Cheers!
