Riddick, new Uni catalog BDs, Pain & Gain: SCE extras, Man of Tai Chi, Mortal Instruments & more

by

Morning, folks.  We’ve had pretty strong response to our column from yesterday about out-of-control retail Blu-ray exclusives.  Seems like a lot of you are irritated by this trend as taken to its recent extreme.

Meanwhile, we’ve got some new announcement and release news for you today…

The big news is that Universal has set Riddick for release on Blu-ray/DVD Combo on 1/14.  The digital release will happen on 12/17.  The BD will include an unrated director’s cut version of the film.  Extras will include 6 featurettes (Riddick: Blindsided, Meet the Mercs, Vin’s Riddick, The World of Riddick, Riddickian Tech and The Twohy Touch).  There will also be a new Riddick: Complete Collection on Blu-ray that same day that includes Pitch Black, The Chronicles of Riddick, Dark Fury and Riddick in one package.  [Read on here…]

Also, Universal has set the catalog titles Coal Miner’s Daughter, Gorillas in the Mist and The Hurricane for release on Blu-ray for the first time on 1/7.

Meanwhile, Paramount has set the Sundance romantic comedy A.C.O.D. for release on Blu-ray, DVD and digital on 1/14.

Paramount has also announced the contents of the Pain & Gain: Special Collector’s Edition Blu-ray that’s due on 12/3 (SRP $39.99).  Extras will include 8 behind-the-scenes featurettes (Still a True Story: Ripped from the Headlines, Back to Basics: Michael Bay’s Vision, American Dreamer: Daniel Lugo, Passion Player: Paul Doyle, Dirty Work: Adrian Doorbal, Victimless Crime: Victor Kershaw, Diamonds in the Rough: Locations and The Real Deal: Law Enforcement).

Sony will release The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/3.  Extras will include 5 featurettes (Bringing Them to Life, Descendants of the Cup, Deadly Attraction, Entering the Shadow World and Into the Shadows: From Book to Screen), a music video, deleted scenes and an Interactive Lineage Tracker.

Well Go USA Entertainment has set A Single Shot for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 1/14.

Anchor Bay and RaDIUS-TWC have set Keanu Reeves’ directorial debut film, Man of Tai Chi, for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/10.  This is a martial arts film in which Reeves has reunited with Matrix trilogy fight choreographer Yuen Wo Ping.

Anchor Bay Films has also set Murph: The Protector for Blu-ray, DVD and digital release on 1/7.  This is a documentary about the life of fallen Navy Seal Lt. Michael Murphy.

Magnolia will release Touchy Feely on Blu-ray and DVD on 12/10.

Icarus Films has set Chris Marker and Pierre Lhomme’s 1963 Paris documentary Le Joli Mai for release on DVD and digital on 11/26.

And Image Entertainment will release Galactic Adventures: 3D Sun/Mars 3D on Blu-ray on 12/3.  The disc will include both Blu-ray 2D and Blu-ray 3D viewing options.

Finally, here’s something interesting for you Amazon and Amazon Prime users: Amazon is paying for the U.S. Postal Service to start delivering their packages on Sunday in addition to the regular Monday-Saturday mail service.  That’s pretty cool and kind of brilliant.

We’ll leave you with Blu-ray cover artwork for Riddick, the Pain & Gain: Special Collector’s Edition and Man of Tai Chi
