We’ve got some good announcement news for you today, so let’s get right to it...

First up... Universal has set The Boxtrolls for Blu-ray and DVD release on 1/20/15. They also have a triple feature Blu-ray set of all three Laika stop-motion films, The Boxtrolls, ParaNorman, and Coraline, coming that same day.  [Read on here…]

Universal also has Racing Hearts coming on Blu-ray and DVD on 1/13/15.

Warner has announced a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: 10th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray for release on 3/3/15.

Speaking of Warner, we mistakenly reported yesterday that those new MGM musical Blu-rays – Kiss Me Kate, Calamity Jane, and The Band Wagon – would be released by Fox. They’re actually coming from Warner. Which would have been easier to catch if Warner Home Video hadn’t shuttered their press website, but what can you do. Sorry for the error. By the way, it appears that those three musical titles will also be released in a collection for $34.99 – the singles are going to run $19.98 each, but obviously Amazon will have them all for 30% off.

Shout! and Scream Factory have announced more catalog Blu-rays for release on 2/24/15, including Miami Blues, starring Alec Baldwin, and New Year’s Evil. Scream also has From a Whisper to a Scream set for BD release on 2/17. And there’s double feature BD releases of Love at First Bite / Once Bitten and Vampire’s Kiss / High Spirits coming on 2/10.

Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will release Archer: The Complete Season Five on DVD and – gasp! – Blu-ray on 1/6/15. Extras will include Cherlene Tunt’s Midnight Blues music video, a Cherlene Tunt Interview on Wake Up Country, and Old MacDonald Pam Poovey Had a Farm, The Musical.

Here’s something awesome: Nick Cave’s 20,000 Days on Earth is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on 11/18 from Cinedigm and Drafthouse Films. Extras will include a making-of featurette, nearly an hour of deleted and extended scenes, and a 14-page booklet with interviews with the filmmakers and Nick Cave.

FUNimation has confirmed their December and January release slates. In December, look for Fairy Tail: Part 14 (BD/DVD Combo) on 12/2, Dragonball Z: Season 9 (BD) on 12/9, Cowboy Bebop: The Complete Series (BD and DVD), and A Certain Magical Index II: Season 2, Part 2 (BD/DVD Combo) on 12/16, and One Piece: Season Six, Voyage Three on 12/23. Then in January, look for Fairy Tail: Collection Three (BD/DVD Combo) on 1/6, the Chaos; Head: Complete Series – S.A.V.E. Edition (BD/DVD Combo) and One Piece: Collection 11 (DVD) on 1/13, and finally A Certain Scientific Railgun: Complete Season One (BD/DVD Combo) on 1/20.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has set a reissue of My Best Friend’s Wedding for Blu-ray release on 2/3.

Well Go USA has set The Lookalike for Blu-ray and DVD release on 2/10.

Well Go has also officially set Terry Gilliam’s The Zero Theorem for Blu-ray release on 1/20, and we have final cover artwork at last too – you can see it above and below.

Lionsgate has set the catalog titles Jersey Girl, Dead Man, Marvin’s Room, and My Left Foot for Blu-ray release/reissue on 1/13.

And Entertainment One will release Left Behind, starring Nicholas Cage, on Blu-ray and DVD on 1/6.

Finally today, a couple of bits of other news from around the Net...

Disney and Lucasfilm have announced the official title of Star Wars: Episode VII. It’s going to be called The Force Awakens. Discuss. (More here at Star Wars.com).

And a word about Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar: I don’t want to post a review of the film yet, because I think you really need to see it yourself and form your own opinion. I’ll just say that I had decidedly mixed feelings about the film. However, the one thing I do want to note is that Dr. Jahnke and I experienced a problem with the audio at the 70mm screening we attended last night (at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood) and it’s apparently widespread. The problem is that the film’s score seems to be mixed too high, so that you lose lines of dialogue here and there – every so often, the character’s dialogue becomes almost inaudible. If you encounter this, report it here at the official website. Hopefully, that will encourage Nolan and company to get this fixed ASAP.

All right, we’ll leave you with a bunch more Blu-ray cover artwork (click on the covers to pre-order on Amazon.com and also support The Bits)...

The Zero Theorem (Blu-ray Disc)    Archer: Season Five (Blu-ray Disc)    Cowboy Bebop: The Complete Series (BD/DVD Combo - Amazon exclusive)

New Year's Evil (Blu-ray Disc)    Love at First Bite / Once Bitten (Blu-ray Disc)    From a Whisper to a Scream (Blu-ray Disc)

Stanley Kubrick: The Masterpiece Collection (Blu-ray Disc)

Stay tuned...!
