All right, we’ve got a couple interesting things for you today. First up, Sony unveiled its first 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player, the UBP-X1000ES, at the CEDIA Expo recently. It’s an ES Series reference unit that supports the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, BD-ROM, DVD Video, DVD Audio, CD, and SACD formats, as well as numerous video codecs compatible with Amazon Video, YouTube, etc. It can upscale content to 4K, features HDR compatibility and offers “a dedicated picture mode for HDR content – when playing 4K HDR content on a 4K SDR television the X1000ES utilizes a unique Sony algorithm to reproduce the proper brightness and color gradations to provide the best picture possible.” It’s compatible with Dolby Atmos and DTS-X, plus has a “32-bit processing DAC compatible with both native DSD (at up to 11.2 MHz) and LPCM (at up to 192kHz) Hi-Res Music files, which are available in a number of different formats.”  [Read on here…]

It further features “dual HDMI outputs with separate audio and video signal paths and its HDMI, 2ch analog and coaxial digital outputs are gold evaporated for better conductivity.” Sony is also having the unit certified with home control and automation vendors like Control4, Crestron, and Savant, among others. Here’s the catch, though: The UBP-X1000ES is being offered exclusively through custom installer channels and isn’t going to be available until Spring 2017. Pricing is TBA, but given all of the above probably high.

In any case, here’s what the UBP-X1000ES looks like, and you can read more details on this announcement via this link...

Also today, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has just set Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie for Blu-ray and DVD release on 11/29, with a Digital HD release due on 11/11. Extras on the disc versions will include deleted scenes, outtakes, a gallery, and 8 featurettes (On Set with Dame Edna, Have a Look, Sweetie Darling!, Locations, Legacy, Cameos, Drag Queens, Making of, Fashion, and Characters). You can see the final Blu-ray cover artwork above and to the left.

And finally, Arrow has just shared a new trailer celebrating the 4K restoration of Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Dekalog. The title is being released by Arrow Films in the U.K. on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/17 (click here to pre-order the U.K. Blu-ray version), and it’s being released here in the States by Criterion on both formats on 9/27 (click here to order the Criterion U.S. Blu-ray version). Here’s a look at the trailer...

That’s all for now. Stay tuned...
