by

We’re kicking things off today with a review of the Blu-ray 3D experience of Star Trek Into Darkness from our own Jeff Kleist, for those of you who have 3D-capable home theater systems.

In announcement news today, Shout! and Scream Factory have set Night of the Comet for release on Blu-ray Combo on 11/19.  Check out this list of extras they’ve compiled: audio commentary with writer/director Thom Eberhardt, audio commentary with stars Kelli Maroney and Catherine Mary Stewart, audio commentary with production designer John Muto, 3 featurettes (Valley Girls at the End of the World, The Last Man on Earth? and Curse of the Comet), a stills gallery and the film’s theatrical trailer.  Not bad!  [Read on here...]

Magnolia Entertainment has set the Danish thriller A Hijacking for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/15.

Buena Vista has set Neighbors: The Complete First Season for DVD only release on 9/24.

One Village and RLJ Entertainment will release Dark Girls on DVD only on 9/24 as well.

Millennium Entertainment has set When Calls the Heart for DVD only release exclusively at Wal-Mart on 10/15, then it goes into wide retail release on 12/31.

PBS is releasing a pair of documentary programs on DVD on 10/15 – Last Will & Testament and Superheroes: A Never Ending Battle.

First Run Features has set A Fierce Green Fire and With Love... from the Age of Reason for DVD release on 10/1.

And History Channel’s Counting Cars: Season 2 – Volume 1 arrives on DVD on 10/15 from Lionsgate.

Finally, in news from around the Net this afternoon, the folks at AD2000 are holding a worldwide “Day of Dredd” promotion today to try and get fans behind the making of a sequel to the recent Dredd.  Star Karl Urban apparently backs the effort.  The idea is to try and get fans to buy or rent the film today (if you haven’t already) to show your support to the studio (Lionsgate) that could fund the sequel.  You can also sign up to support the effort via this websiteHere’s a link to our own review of the title on Blu-ray 3D, and here’s Amazon.com purchase links for the title on Blu-ray 3D Combo and DVD.  Give it a spin and we think you’ll really enjoy it...
