Ultra HD Blu-ray begins arriving in U.S. stores, just as 3DTV is declared “dead” by IB Times https://t.co/9hScDCjK3B
Here’s what the open packaging looks like...
We sure would love to have something like on Blu-ray, but that’s not to be at the moment. In any case, Amazon has the set for just $139.99 and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the price creep lower over time.
Universal has also set Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Season One for DVD release on 9/23, along with Defiance: Season Two (Blu-ray and DVD), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit – The Fifteenth Year, and Necessary Roughness: Season Three. And they have a Woody Woodpecker and Friends: Halloween Favorites DVD set for 9/2.
Meanwhile, the best indication that Warner and Amazon have ended their kerfuffle is that Warner’s Godzilla (2014) is now available for Blu-ray 3D Combo and Blu-ray Combo pre-order on Amazon. Street date is TBA. Same with Warner’s Edge of Tomorrow on Blu-ray 3D Combo and Blu-ray Combo.
In other release news, it looks like Lionsgate has set Hannibal: Season Two for Blu-ray and DVD release on 9/9.
Synapse Films is releasing the original Prom Night, starring Jamie Lee Curtis, on Blu-ray on 9/9 as well.
And PBS Distribution has set Frontline: The United States of Secrets for DVD only release on 7/29. I’ve actually seen this – it’s completely fascinating. It’s in two parts and covers the whole Edward Snowden thing and the NSA.
We’ll leave you with a look at the DVD art for the Universal Classic Monsters: The Complete 30-Film Collection, and the Blu-ray cover artwork for Warner’s Gremlins: 30th Anniversary Diamond Luxe Edition (due 9/30) and Once Upon a Time in America: Extended Director’s Cut (also 9/30), as well as Kino’s Run Silent Run Deep, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Meteor, Avalanche, Juggernaut, and The Great Train Robbery (all due 9/9 or 9/16)...
Obviously, there’s not going to be a post here tomorrow given it’s the Fourth of July here in the States, so we’ll check back in with you on Monday. Have a great (and safe) holiday weekend!
