Uni's Spielberg Collection w/1941 & more (!), plus Nightbreed: Limited & Homeland: Season 3

by

Okay… we’ve got a few pretty cool things to report today that should kick off July in high style!

First, here at the site today we have a couple of new columns. Todd Doogan has posted his weekly Doogan’s Queue column running down this week’s latest Blu-ray and DVD releases. Our very own Dr. Adam Jahnke has also delivered his weekly Burnt Offerings: MOD DVD column, detailing the latest hand-crafted deep catalog titles from Warner Archive and the Sony Pictures Choice Collection.

Speaking of Jahnke, he’s also turned in a review of Warner’s new 300: Rise of an Empire Blu-ray. Sounds as though the film is exactly what you’d expect. The review is a good read, so do give it a look. [Read on here…]

Also today, Russell Hammond has the weekly Release Dates & Artwork update now online, complete with all the latest Blu-ray and DVD cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. Buying virtually anything from Amazon after clicking to them through our links helps to support The Bits and our appreciation for that support is no small thing.

Meanwhile, the BIG news today is that Universal has announced the Steven Spielberg Director’s Collection for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/14. The set will include eight films from Spielberg, including four available for the first time ever on Blu-ray and “digitally-remastered from their original elements.” New titles include Duel, 1941 (both the theatrical and extended cuts), Always, and The Sugarland Express. You’ll also get Jaws, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, and The Lost World: Jurassic Park. From the press release: “Hours of bonus features include Making-of Documentaries, Interviews with Steven Spielberg, Behind-the-Scenes Featurettes, Rare Archival Footage, Deleted Scenes and much more.” You can see the cover artwork here and it’s now available for pre-order on Amazon by clicking on the art...
