All right, the big news today is that, as we first revealed here at The Bits several weeks ago, Disney and Pixar are indeed releasing Brad Bird’s The Incredibles on 4K Ultra HD on 6/12, in support of the theatrical release of The Incredibles 2 that same week. It looks like the 4K release will include Dolby Atmos audio and will also include the Blu-ray edition with all its special features. Note that Best Buy is going to have an exclusive Steelbook version of the title. [Update: It appears that Best Buy is listing the Steelbook 4K version as streeting on 6/5. It’s possible that the wide release will be 6/5 as well, and not 6/12 as currently listed. We expect official details soon from the studio and we’ll update this information then.]

This would mark the very first time that Disney has gone back to release a deeper catalog title on the 4K format (not just a new theatrical release). Here’s hoping we see many more Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars catalog titles released in 4K soon.

Meanwhile this afternoon, our friends at The Criterion Collection have now officially announced their August slate of Blu-ray and DVD titles as follows… [Read on here...]

Also today, the Warner Archive has announced that they’re working on a Blu-ray release of Stanley Donen’s Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954). This will be a 2-disc special edition coming in the months ahead. The company is also working on new Blu-rays of Gordon Parks, Jr’s Super Fly (1972) and Vincente Minnelli’s Designing Woman (1957) for release in the weeks ahead. Street dates are TBA.

Lionsgate has announced Escape Plan 2: Hades for Blu-ray and DVD release on 6/29. The film stars Sylvester Stallone and Dave Bautista.

Lionsgate has also announced that their next two Vestron Video Collector’s Series Blu-rays will include H.P. Lovecraft’s Dagon and Beyond Re-Animator. Look for them on 7/24.

And Kino Lorber has revealed that One Good Cop (1991) and Fire Birds (1990) will be added to their Studio Classics line-up on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/10. Look also for The Associate (1996) and Frank McKlusky, C.I. (2002) on both formats on 7/17, along with Nightmare (1981) from Code Red DVD that same day, followed by I Walk Alone (1947) and A Strange Adventure (1956) on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/24, and Mr. Destiny (1990) and Taking Care of Business (1990) on both formats on 7/31. We’ve also mentioned it previously, but Billy Wilder’s Irma La Douce (1963) is coming on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/17 as well.

We’ll leave you with a look at the cover artwork for a few of the titles mentioned above, with Amazon pre-order links if available…
