My kingdom for a Hobbit review, plus new columns & RIP Mickey Rooney

by

All right, I’ve finally got my review of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug on Blu-ray for you to check out. The movie is fun – better than the first go-round for those keeping score – and the Blu-ray itself delivers all the quality and extras you’d expect from the Theatrical Cut BD release. The disc streets today, so check out the review… then pick up your copy and enjoy! [Read on here…]

Also today, heir Doogan and the good Dr. Jahnke have turned in new installments of their Doogan’s Queue and Burnt Offerings: MOD DVD columns running down all the latest and greatest offerings available in stores (and from the studios online) on Blu-ray, DVD and MOD DVD. Enjoy!

Finally, we’d like to take a moment today to acknowledge the passing over the weekend of legendary actor Mickey Rooney, who started in film as a child way back in the 1930s and championed Hollywood film to his final days at the ripe old age of 93. You can read more here at The New York Times.

And that’s all for today. We’re working on more reviews, so in the next day or two you can reasonably expect to read my thoughts on CBS’ new Star Trek: Enterprise – Season Four Blu-ray set, which closes out that complete series on HD disc. And we’ll have more reviews for you too.

Have a great afternoon, and see you back here tomorrow. Stay tuned…
