All right, just a quick one today with some news and a couple items of interest...

First, Warner Bros. has officially announced Clint Eastwood’s The 15:17 to Paris for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/22, with a “4K Digital” release due on 5/1. Yes, it appears the studio has decided not to release an actual 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray version of this one. Extras on the Blu-ray will include 2 featurettes (Making Every Second Count and Portrait of Courage). You can see the cover artwork at left and below.

Warner has also set Alex & Me for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/19, with the Digital release expected on 6/12. Extras will include 3 featurettes (Getting to Know Alex, Aspire to Inspire: Success in Hard Work, and Soccer, Script to Set: A Playbook on Alex & Me) and an outtake. [Read on here...]

Also today, Lionsgate has set Beyond Re-Animator for release as a Vestron Video Collector’s Series Blu-ray title on 7/24. Extras will include an audio commentary with director Brian Yuzna, 5 all-new features (including isolated score selections and audio interview with composer Xavier Capellas, Beyond & Back with director Brian Yuzna, Death Row Sideshow with actor Jeffrey Combs, Six Shots By Midnight with S. T. Joshi, author of I Am Providence: The Life and Times of H.P. Lovecraft, and a Production Art Gallery by Illustrator Richard Raaphorst), as well as a still gallery, a vintage EPK featurette, the Dr. Reanimator: Move Your Dead Bones music video, and the film’s theatrical trailer. You can see the cover artwork below.

Lionsgate has also announced Dagon as a Vestron Video Collector’s Series Blu-ray release on 7/24. You’ll get both existing commentaries with director Stuart Gordon and others, a vintage EPK, archival interviews with Stuart Gordon, Ezra Godden, and others, a still gallery, a storyboard gallery, and the trailer. All new for this release are a trio of featurettes (Gods & Monsters with director Stuart Gordon, Shadows over Imboca with producer Brian Yuzna, and Fish Stories with author S.T. Joshi).

Meanwhile, Universal has set Will & Grace (The Revival): Season One for DVD only release on 6/12. Extras will include deleted scenes, a gag reel, and 3 featurettes (Back to the Beginning, Reuniting the Team, and Classic Comedy).

And Kino Lorber has just announced that they’re going to be releasing a new Blu-ray and DVD version of Paul Verhoeven’s Spetters (1980) on 6/19, mastered from a new 4K film scan. Other titles they have coming on Blu-ray include Haunted (the complete 2002 TV series) on 5/29 and Norman Taurog’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1938 – street date TBA).

All right, we have a quick update from our retail sources on yet-to-be-announced 4K Ultra HD titles: Look for Disney and Marvel’s Black Panther on 5/8 or 5/15, Warner’s Tomb Raider (2018) on 6/12, and Warner’s Ready Player One on 7/24. We’re also hearing that Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time will likely arrive on disc in late May or early June. Keep in mind, all these dates are unofficial and subject to change until the titles are actually announced by the studios.

Finally today, I wanted to point out two cool new items some of you may be interested in...

First of all, Michael Benson has written a great new book on the making of 2001: A Space Odyssey that streeted yesterday. It’s called Space Odyssey: Stanley Kubrick, Arthur C. Clarke, and the Making of a Masterpiece. You can find it here on Amazon. We hear great things and I’ve just gotten my hands on a copy myself. I’m really looking forward to digging into it.

Also, Rhino Records is finally re-releasing their long out-of-print The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring – The Complete Recordings box set tomorrow (4/6). You can find that here on Amazon as well. It includes the complete soundtrack on 3 CDs and 1 Blu-ray Audio disc, along with a book of liner notes. This is essentially an updating of their previous version, which featured the lossless audio on DVD-Audio format. SRP is $79.98 and, based on my experience with that DVD-Audio version, I would suggest you get a copy fast while they’re available if you’re interested. If the title sells well, you can expect Rhino to follow it with similar CD/BD-A reissues of The Two Towers and Return of the King in the months ahead.

We’ll leave you with a look at some new Blu-ray cover artwork (plus the book and music title just mentioned). Amazon.com pre-order listings will be added as they become available...
