Also today, we have a key new Blu-ray release announcement for you, and it’s one you’ve been waiting for: 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has just set Michael Mann’s Heat: Director’s Definitive Edition Blu-ray for release on 5/9. You’ll also be able to get a DVD version that day, as well as Digital HD (there’s no word yet of a 4K Ultra HD release, but I’ve asked Fox about it). This is a “new restoration overseen by Michael Mann” per Fox’s press release. Audio will be 5.1 DTS-HD MA. New extras will include video of an Academy Panel reuniting Mann, Pacino and De Niro and moderated by Christopher Nolan, as well as video of the Toronto International Film Festival Q&A with Mann. Legacy extras will carry over as well, including audio commentary by Mann, the 3-part The Making of Heat documentary (True Crime, Crime Stories, and Into the Fire), 2 additional featurettes (Pacino and De Niro: The Conversation and Return to the Scene of the Crime), 11 deleted/extended scenes, and 3 theatrical trailers.

Meanwhile, we’ve learned that Universal’s Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 may be the first U.S. 4K Ultra-HD releases to include Dolby Vision. I say may because, while it’s possible that other titles streeting sooner may have Dolby Vision, images of the back of the packaging released by Universal confirms that these titles will definitely have it. Special thanks to Bits reader Dave C. for the spot...

Despicable Me 1&2 will have Dolby Vision

All right, Heat is now available for pre-order on Amazon... here’s the cover artwork. Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 4K are also up for pre-order and the cover art links are included below. In the meantime, Amazon is currently selling Warner’s The Iron Giant: Signature Edition Blu-ray for just $5.99, so click on that cover to take advantage...
