We also have word that the studio has plans to bring The Incredible Hulk (2008) to 4K Ultra HD in early 2018. Now, Universal currently has the Blu-ray version of The Incredible Hulk due for re-issue in new packaging (celebrating the Marvel Studios anniversary) on 2/13. Our retail sources are suggesting April-ish for the 4K release. This would be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe catalog title (non-new theatrical release) to arrive in the U.S. on the 4K format. One hopes it might encourage Disney to begin releasing their own MCU catalog titles on 4K this year.
Not done yet: Sony is working on The Patriot (2000) and Fury (2014) for release on 4K UHD, likely in May or June.
And of course, all of this is in addition to the news we posted earlier this week, that Warner is planning to release Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey on 4K Ultra HD in 2018 in honor of the film’s 50th anniversary. Not to mention other titles we know are coming to 4K, which include Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood, Gladiator, The Big Lebowski, and more.
Keep in mind again, all of this is subject to change until the studios in question make their official announcements. We’ve added all of these titles to our 4K Ultra HD Release List, which you’ll find here.
Here’s a look at the cover artwork for some of the upcoming 4K titles now available for pre-order on Amazon.com (just click on the cover art, and please do so as it allows us to keep The Bits going)...
