Nebraska on 2/25, Big Gundown BD review, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World interview & more

by

More good stuff for you today…

First, Dr. Jahnke has posted a BD review of Sony’s The Big Gundown, a great spaghetti western from 1966 directed by Sergio Sollima. Sounds like the disc and its extras are pretty swell too. Don’t miss it.

Also today, our own Michael Coate has posted an update of his History, Legacy & Showmanship column from back on November – It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Retrospective – with a great roundtable interview from some of the folks involved in the film’s restoration and Criterion’s fine new Blu-ray release, including Karen Stetler, the Criterion Blu-ray Disc producer; Robert A. Harris, the restoration/reconstruction producer; Karen Sharpe-Kramer, the widow of producer-director Stanley Kramer; and the team that recorded the audio commentary track: Mark Evanier, Michael Schlesinger, and Paul Scrabo. It’s a great read, so I highly recommend that you give it a look. [Read on here…]

In release news today, there seems to be some confusion about whether or not Best Buy is going to have a Blu-ray 3D exclusive on Disney’s Frozen. We’re looking into it. Meanwhile, it looks like Target is going to have an exclusive BD version with a bonus disc offering 2 featurettes and a deleted scene not available elsewhere. We’ll post updates as we have them.

Also today, Paramount has set Alexander Payne’s Nebraska for release on Blu-ray Combo and DVD on 2/25 (the digital window opens on 2/18). SRP is $39.99 and $29.99. Extras on the disc will include the 6-part The Making of Nebraska documentary (includes The Script, Cast and Characters, Locations, Shooting in Black and White, Working with Alexander, and A Film Family).

Sony will release Cold Comes the Night, starring Alice Eve, Logan Marshall-Green and Bryan Cranston, for Blu-ray and DVD release on 3/4. Extras will include deleted scenes.

Lionsgate has set Swamp People: Season 4 for DVD release on 2/11. They have also set 100 Years Of Wrigley Field for DVD release on 3/11.

Film Movement will release Pelin Esmer’s Watchtower on DVD on 2/18.

Well Go USA has set Lost in Thailand for Blu-ray and DVD release on 2/25.

Millennium entertainment has set Life of a King for Blu-ray and DVD release on 2/11.

Icarus Films Home Video have set Disco & Atomic War for DVD release on 2/25.

Here’s a look at the BD cover art for Nebraska, Criterion’s It’s Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (now available), and Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks (TBA but available for pre-order on Amazon by clicking on the cover)…
