About the Artist of the Month Program / Application
Artist of the Month Archive & Link Section

We're back! Hopefully you missed the Artist Feature (or at least noticed it was M.I.A. for a few months) but it's back and ready to roll again. To kick us off, we have a great 3-D illustration artist from across the pond - Paul Woodward. Be sure to check out his site, as he does much more than just illustration.

If you are an artist and would like to be considered for the Artist of the Month program, please email me at shunt@thedigitalbits.com. See you again next month!

Artist's Bio - Paul Woodward

I am 37 and a trained designer who has spent most of my working life teaching Design and Technology to secondary school students. I also worked as a professional musician for many years but I guess a real love of mine has always been art and illustration. While I may have a fondness for unique and ingenious 3D design I always had difficulty realising my own style of 2D artwork, until I was introduced to the PC and 3D design software such as trueSpace from Caligari. For the last 10 years or so I have used such software in the classroom and also at home to develop my own style of 3D illustration.

I started writing children’s books a few years ago and I have been steadily developing characters, locations and stories ever since. I came up with the concept of Buddy World; a universe of different locations and stories all with a unique style of illustration. Alongside this project I also developed my modelling and rendering skills and diversified into more ‘photorealistic’ rendering but fantastical artwork is where my heart really is.

Another spin-off from Buddy World is the ‘pepe at the movies’ range of spoof movie posters; my favourite cult films lovingly recreated but with pepe the pig in the starring role as he dreams of becoming a film star.

I have also worked with Caligari Corporarion for the last few years providing artwork, tutorials and, more recently, helping to design the user interface for their new trueSpace 7.5 software.

So, all in all, a pretty varied mix of digital work but my real passion is in developing Buddy World, especially as I recently signed a distribution deal for the whole Buddy World project. I also have a chance to illustrate a range of books from a UK publisher during the next few years. Things are looking pretty exciting for the future.

We hope you enjoyed Paul's work!! See you next month.....

We've received numerous submissions for the program so far, but I am always eager to see more! It seems there are a lot of talented people out there. The program is open to artists of all kinds - painters, sculptors, illustrators, photographers and even performance artists. Professional or amateur. If you're interested in sharing your art with the world, or receiving more information about this program, please contact Sarah Hunt or click on the link below. See you again next month with another great artist!
