This is definitely the better of the bootleg versions of Star
Wars, mastered using an Asian release of the special
edition laserdisc. It opens with the Fox Home Entertainment logo,
and then follows with the Dolby Digital "City" and THX
laserdisc trailers, both in true Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound.
You then get the menu page you see below (at top). From this menu,
you can chose to watch the film in either 5.1 or 2.0 surround (it
actually has both on the disc, and you can switch "on the fly"
using your remote). There's a single page of production notes, and a
chapter menu with 6 chapter selections (note that there are actually
7 chapters in all). The image is letterboxed, with English subs in
red at the top (in the top black bar) and Chinese subtitles in white
at the bottom (again, in the black bar). The disc also includes a
brief "behind-the-scenes" featurette, tagged on to the end
of the film (from the laserdisc). Note that the disc's screen
printing (above) claims it's a Paramount title.
You can see screen shots from the disc below. Keep in mind that
when resizing them for the Internet, Photoshop tends to minimize
imperfections in the picture, so the images may make the video
quality seem better than it is. I would say that the quality here is
somewhat less than laserdisc (it is a copy, after all), but better
than VHS. |
