This disc is even stranger. It must have been an early bootleg,
as it was taken from not the special edition laserdisc, but an
earlier full frame laserdisc of the ORIGINAL version of Return
of the Jedi. That's right - no SE. The only trailer here
is the Dolby Digital "City" clip in 5.1. Then a pretty
lame non-animated menu pops up, which allows you to play the film or
visit a chapter selection page (which IS animated - go figure).
There are 6 chapter stops in all. As it was mastered off of an
earlier laserdisc, the audio here is only 2.0 surround. The picture
is full frame and isn't remarkable at all, with Chinese subtitles at
the bottom. The printing on the disc itself is taken from poster
artwork, and has really bad color reproduction.
You can see screen shots from the disc below. Keep in mind that
when resizing them for the Internet, Photoshop tends to minimize
imperfections in the picture, so the images may make the video look
better than it is. I would say that the video is about that of VHS
(recorded at the 6-hour speed). |
