The
Digital Bits is proud to present The
2nd Annual Bitsy Awards - our very own online version of
the Academy Awards for DVD! The Bitsys
are our way of acknowledging the Best and Worst in DVD. Last year's
awards were so successful that we just had to bring our little
golden sidekick back for 2000! We'll honor discs that we think are
first-rate, and the studios and creative teams behind them. And, as
always, we'll take a good-natured look at the dark side of DVD too,
and point out a few discs that disappointed us. We'll even give you
our thoughts on some of the latest trends in DVD, and note a few
things we'd like to see happen with the format.
2000 was an amazing year in terms of both DVD production quality
and the stature of the titles being released. Only discs released
(or re-released) in 2000 were eligible for consideration.
Nominations for each category were made by Bits
editors Todd Doogan and Bill Hunt, and then the two of us put our
heads together to make the final picks. Some of the categories were
pretty tough to decide - a lot of titles pushed the cutting edge of
DVD technology in 2000. But after hours of careful deliberation, we
finally made our selections. You may agree with us... or you may
not. But hey - it's all in good fun. And we've added several new
categories this year, including Reader's
Favorite DVD! Hundreds of Bits
readers sent in their choices and we'll reveal their pick for the
best disc of 2000.
We've broken the awards down into three pages for easier browsing.
So let's get right to it! We hope you enjoy The
2nd Annual Bitsys Awards. And congratulations to all the
winners! On behalf of our readers, the staff of the The
Digital Bits would like EVERYONE involved in the DVD
industry to know that we really appreciate what you do. As always,
keep up the good work!
And until next year... keep spinning those discs!

Todd Doogan
